Who is she? Hala was born in Astoria, Queens (New York). Growing up, Hala says she was always an observer, the critic, and the loud mouth, or as she puts it, ‘The neighborhood Munchkin.’
Holding onto her dream that a career in radio and television would be ‘the vessels to voice her opinions,’ fueled her motivation. She said, “I had a full proof plan.” However, through this thing called life, came the realization that success isn’t a straight line, but more of a series of doodles.
‘Straight outta high school,’ Hala enrolled into numerous community colleges to become stronger at multitasking, an effective communicator, and most important, to earn a degree. Hala committed herself to writing by penning poems and short stories. She also wrote for several online publications: Joonbug, Rapfest, Dunk360. Hala’s determination also led her to create her own blog ManicInstinct.com .
At the College of Staten Island, Hala got involved with the campus radio station (WSIA)…from that experience, according to her, she was bitten by the radio bug, and well on her way to the top! Since then, Hala has worked with the best of them at several New York stations: 106.7 Lite FM, Power 105.1, Hot 97 and Sirius XM. All for the purpose of mastering her skills and landing a full time on air personality position.
This brings us to the newest chapter of her life, one she describes as ‘LifeStyle of the Broke and Fameless’. She says this refers to being out there, hanging among the best of them, and rubbing shoulders with the “who’s who” of the music and entertainment industry. “Doing this, while simultaneously struggling to get out my ‘momma’s house’…you know, the house you grew up in!
After graduating from the College of Staten Island in 2014, Hala hosted and curated trendy events and showcases. She also worked with marketing a new generation of NYC artists. This experience helped Hala develop as on-air personality and events’ emcee. Soon, she would catch the ear of veteran program director and afternoon drive personality, Tap Money of FOXY99 here in Fayetteville.
Tap offered her an opportunity to live her dream to be an air personality. In essence, Hala Maroc has been preparing for this day throughout her life…from every poem and short story she’s written, to running an online blog, and from every YOUTUBE artist/talent interview she’s done. Each one strengthened her confidence, and took her closer to ‘living her dreams’.
Here we are a short 5 months later, with so much to show for all the risk, and determination. Today #OntheBlockWithHalaMaroc has a brand new home at BOOM PHILLY!
