Another win for Jay-Z and his company Roc Nation, the music mogul and the social justice department of Roc Nation, Team ROC, helped Jabari Talbot get his case dropped after he was arrested for not standing for the pledge of allegiance in class.
Talbot told his teacher, Ana Alvarez, that “the flag was racist and the national anthem was offensive to Black people.” She then asked why he was still living in America, Talbot told her, “They brought me here.” Alvarez had campus police arrest Talbot based on him being “disruptive.”
The arrest affidavit stated that Talbot threatened to physically harm Ms. Alvarez and he told the principal and the officer that he would get them fired.
Luckily, Jay-Z stepped in putting Alex Spiro on the case, who got the case dropped immediately. “Jabari is a courageous and intelligent young man who deserves all the credit for standing up for his beliefs,” Spiro said in a statement. “He should’ve never been arrested or entangled in this situation—his freedom of speech rights were clearly protected under the 1st Amendment.” Spiro and Jay-Z also teamed up to help Meek Mill and 21 Savage with their recent legal battles.
