Boom Moment In Hip-Hop

On this date in 1993, LL Cool J released his fifth studio album under Def Jam Records called 14 Shots to the Dome. This was the follow up album to his hugely successful Mama Said Knock You Out album, released 3 years prior.

However, this album didn’t see the commercial success that LL was accustomed too. Many people feel that LL didn’t have as much success with this album because it wasn’t created under his terms, and this album adopted the popularity of the West coast gangsta rap movement, because the success of Ice Cube and Cypress Hill.

The album spawned two singles that had minimal success, and would only be certified as Gold by the RIAA. The singles that reached Billboard chart status were “How I’m Comin”, “Stand by Your Man”, “Back Seat”, and “Pink Cookies in a Plastic Bag”.
