Fred Mwangaguhunga rarely does interviews. In fact when I was presented the opportunity to speak with the owner and man behind the most hated/loved and influential urban website I nearly toppled over in my chair.
Mediatakeout.com was founded in 2006 by Fred, a corporate lawyer more familiar with Wall Street than journalism. After finding financial success in an online laundry service, he decided to venture into the same business he had once promoted his product on–blogs! Very few blogs existed at the time, Fred explained, none of which focused on gossip–many were personal testaments of one’s life, day and or desires.
Capitalizing on the small but growing market, Mediatakeout.com offered what the consumer was missing–the blatant gossip and juicy stories from their favorite urban public icon. Though people question the origin of the information being spread like wild fire over the Internet they always return.
Check out what else he says about Media Takeout…
As for MediaTakeout.com’s exclusive sources (he does not name, names)–they aren’t as classified as you would think–they are your favorite artists attempting to create a buzz around perishing careers, anonymous spectators and or the close individuals your beloved celebrity trusts. When asked does he sometimes fear for his life? answers “No.” He admits to having a good relationship with most artists and openly invites anyone in the industry with “good” information to come forward, he will post it and your secret is safe with him!
Mediatakeout.com averages over 10 million Unique Visitors and close to 400 million Page Views each month. While many will disagree with the methods in which MediaTakeout.com delivers their scoop and scandals, Fred reassures us that because of the enormity of MTO, he does follow many of the journalist methods most blogs do not. He specifically refers to a rumor that hit the world wide web about ex-B2K member Raz-B who previously alleged that ex-manager Chris Stokes had molested him, claiming that he now had urinated on a minor in China. “It’s on every blog, we looked into it, it’s false, those charges are false!” says Fred, negating the fabrication by good old fashion investigating.
